The President's Cup Award is presented to an individual or individuals who contribution to WSHJA has made a significant impact on WSHJA achieving its goals and fulfilling its mission. WSHJA President Shelly Kerron had the pleasure of presenting four individuals with the 2012 President’s Cup Award. Every last one of them a tribute to the hunter jumper sport and to the WSHJA community.
Not a year passes without the sponsorship support of Olson’s Tack Shop. Through his unwavering commitment the sport and WSHJA, Mike has helped keep WSHJA going strong. And all of us looking good in the latest equestrian fashions. Thank you Mike for all your years of support.
Whether its writing inspiring articles or reaching out to WSHJA friends through Facebook, Katherine’s words have informed, inspired, and energized the membership. Thank you Katherine.
There are some volunteers that no matter what is asked of them, you can count on them to show up with a smile. Melody is just this kind of volunteer. Her list of contributions are too numerous to include, but WSHJA is indebted to her for many many volunteer hours. Thank you Melody.
When it comes to running a show office with efficacy and grace, Barbara is WSHJA’s shining star. One of WSHJA’s founding members, Barbara has championed WSHJA and its horse shows throughout the years and through many changes. Thank you Barb.
It was a festive and glittery evening for the recipients of WSHJA 2012 Annual Awards. The room filled with riders and their adoring fans (aka parents, grandparents, fellow barn mates, and longtime supporters of WSHJA) to celebrate not only this year’s award recipients but to remember many of the greats from a 60 year history.
There was a lot to celebrate. And many people to recognize. WSHJA presented 36 State Awards, 82 National Awards, 30 USHJA Zone 9 Awards. Plus WSHJA honored four President’s Cup Awards recipients, three Sportsmanship Award recipients and three USHJA Affiliate Equitation Awards for the WSHJA Good Seat & Hands Medal. That’s a lot of celebrating.
The whole evening was made possible through the generous contributions of our member volunteers. A huge thanks goes out to;
- Our talented announcers Scott Trewin, Bo Masters and Trevor Peterson we made it through in record time. A full evening indeed, but with 129 awards to present what are you going to do. Our announcers kept it flowing, presenting each award with enthusiasm and good spirit throughout the night.
- Karen Freywald and her well organized team of ribbon and prize presenters Kim Gilmore, Melody Gilmore, Amy Kosmos, Val Nelson, Stephanie Von Gortler, Diane Renihan.
- Betsy Christianson, Gillian Baird, Peter Brandon and Grady Kerron for presenting all the perpetual trophies. Lauren Myers and Emily Hilton for handing out the USHJA Zone 9 trophies.
- The whole stylish movie star worthy room is thanks to Lynn Trewin and her band of volunteers Laney Senyohl, Krista Taylor, Liza Taylor, Camille Brash, Kim Stuckens, Jennifer Sparks
- Jessica Vania for the commemorative program that will surely be a keepsake for years to come. And to Gary Voth, Rory Wade-Easely, Bobbie Harder for the photo slideshows that reminded us all what great company we are in.
- Pat Domine and all the donors and bidders who made the silent auction a success, raising $6200 in support of the WSHJA Scholarship Fund.
- Nancy Lewis, Suzanne Hitz and Katie Seymour for handling 420 registrations with grace and efficiency.
- The Katies for raising $1300 in the raffle. Katie Nubel of CWD for donating the bridle and reins. Katie Sputh for her stellar ticket sales.
We also owe a great deal of thanks to the evening's sponsors. Clare Warren of Archway Equestrian for generously hosting the welcome bubbly. Dacels Jewelers for making it possible for WSHJA to give the beautifully engraved watches and pendants to our champions and reserve champions.
Our sincere apologies if we have forgotten to mention someone. The Annual Awards Banquet is only possible with the support of our members. We appreciate you all and hope you enjoyed the evening.

It’s that time of year again! The rain is falling, the show season is over and points have been accumulated. That can mean only one thing; the WSHJA Annual Awards Banquet is right around the corner. And our request for silent auction donations goes out to you.
The Silent Auction is one of the principal fund raising events for the year. 100% of the proceeds go to the WSHJA Scholarship Fund--supporting our member riders and their horses represent Washington at out-of-state regional and national finals. It also supports educational scholarship opportunities to our volunteer community.
Please show your support by donating auction items. We are counting on each barn donating 3 auction items--perennial favorites are:
- Gift baskets filled with useful horsey stuff
- Unique custom made items such as groom boxes, jumps, mounting blocks...
- Anything clothing for horse, hound, or human.
- Professional Services such as photography, massage, braiding....
- Experiences including weekend getaways, tee times, unique dinners, riding clinics, and tickets to sporting or theater events.
We kindly ask that all donations be auction ready. Please include the procurement form with each donation.

Sixty years ago WSHJA was founded, with a purpose to promote the sport of horsemanship, welfare of the horse and the equestrian art; to hold or arrange matches and competitions and offer or grant or contribute toward the provision of prizes, awards and distinctions.
Sixty years since its founding, WSHJA is one of the more successful USHJA-affiliated organizations in the country. It is also one of the few hunter jumper associations in the country to own and present its own USEF rated horse shows: Spring National Circuit, Evergreen Classic, NW Autumn Classic, October Classic. WSHJA supports a membership base of over 400 active members and a community of 1,000+ friends and fans.
Sixty years have seen a lot of riders and horses born, raised and still going today. WSHJA has had many legends, leaders, and loved one whose contribution has shaped the association and championed its mission with unwavering commitment.
Sixty years gives us all a lot to celebrate. Please join us for 60th Anniversary Annual Awards Banquet. Held in the Meydenbauer Center, Bellevue Washington January 12th, 2013.
The 60th anniversary is the diamond anniversary and is as precious as the jewel. Not sure how this will factor into the year-end awards, but just saying it is the diamond anniversary and it will surely be a diamond worthy affair.
