It’s that time of year again! The rain is falling, the show season is over and points have been accumulated. That can mean only one thing; the WSHJA Annual Awards Banquet is right around the corner. And our request for silent auction donations goes out to you.
The Silent Auction is one of the principal fund raising events for the year. 100% of the proceeds go to the WSHJA Scholarship Fund--supporting our member riders and their horses represent Washington at out-of-state regional and national finals. It also supports educational scholarship opportunities to our volunteer community.
Please show your support by donating auction items. We are counting on each barn donating 3 auction items--perennial favorites are:
- Gift baskets filled with useful horsey stuff
- Unique custom made items such as groom boxes, jumps, mounting blocks...
- Anything clothing for horse, hound, or human.
- Professional Services such as photography, massage, braiding....
- Experiences including weekend getaways, tee times, unique dinners, riding clinics, and tickets to sporting or theater events.
We kindly ask that all donations be auction ready. Please include the procurement form with each donation.
Contact Patricia Domine, WSHJA's Auction Chair, at p_domine@hotmail.com or at 425-369-1134 with any questions and to confirm your donation.
WSHJA has always been blessed with a generous community. We thank you in advance for your contribution again this year.
Beginning in 2012, WSHJA will award two educational scholarships.
Purpose
Educational scholarships shall be awarded to attend clinics, seminars, or classes related to improving performance or increasing education in equine care, maintenance, or training for participation in the hunter/jumper community. They will be awarded in the amount of $750.00 to one junior and one amateur each year.
Eligibility
Applicants must be resident of Washington State and member in good standing of WSHJA. Applicants are not eligible for an educational scholarship if they have received funding from the Washington State Finals Scholarships or the Emerging Athletes Program Scholarships. Applicant must complete a minimum of 5 volunteer hours with WSHJA during the show year in order to be eligible. The applicant must submit, in writing, their request for an Educational Scholarship to the Secretary of WSHJA NO LATER THAN one day prior to the Annual Members Meeting. Applicant will include a list of his or her volunteer activities and hours.
Process and Operation
At the Annual Members Meeting the Educational Scholarship recipients names WILL BE SELECTED BY A RANDOM DRAWING from among qualified applicants, one for a junior and one for an amateur. An alternate name will be drawn in each category in the event scholarship winner is unable or chooses not to participate. The Executive Board and/or an Executive Board officer must approve the educational opportunity selected and will arrange payment and/or reimbursement. The board may adjust scholarship amount if the financial status of the Association warrants.

A highly anticipated element of the Annual Awards Banquet is our silent auction, which helps to raise money for the WSHJA Scholarship Program. Our members have always shown outstanding generosity and support for this program to benefit junior and amateur riders.
